Hospital St Louis uses Wi-Fi-based healthcare visibility solutionsWednesday 21st October 2009 New technology has improved security, efficiency and patient care at Hospital St Louis, Ettelbruck. The staff at the hospital have faced challenges, for instance in determining whether disoriented and psychiatric patients had left permitted areas. Some patients may leave the facility or enter restricted areas. However, now with the latest Wi-Fi tags the hospital can track down both patients and staff. Also, there were occurrences at the hospital where patients behaved aggressively towards members of staff. For example, this may occur when a member of staff is escorting a patient. The previous phone system staff used to call for assistance was insufficient because it did not provide alerts nor locate where the occurrence was taking place. Another time-consuming issue was locating equipment at the hospital, such as oxygen bottles. The hospital needed to be prompt in finding equipment to comply with regulatory agencies standards. Recently the hospital has made a tracking device available to solve both these issues. They also upgraded their capabilities and simplified the management of their mobile network by deploying a Cisco Unified Wireless Network. Daniel Schartz, a member of the IT network and security staff at Hospital St. Louis says it provides " …easy scalability as the mobile needs of the hospital continue to grow."
