Fujitsu termination slows IT implementationTuesday 3rd June 2008 NHS Trusts in the South of England may be unable to meet their national 18-week wait requirements following the termination of Fujitsu’s IT contract, experts say.Healthcare business intelligence specialist Ardentia warns that although existing computer programs installed by Fujitsu will continue to run, those not yet up and running will come under legal dispute. They say this could pose serious issues for Trusts trying to meet national reporting and management requirements. David Beeson, marketing director at Ardentia said: “The disruption caused to Trusts as a result of the termination of the Fujitsu contract could hardly have come at a worse time, with the December deadline for meeting 18-week wait referral to treatment times now looming large. “At best, the difficulties surrounding the contract are going to lead to further delays in providing the necessary system upgrades.” Adrian Byrne, information technology director at Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust said: “Improved processes and systems, and access to essential referrals-to-treatment information means a better flow of patients, enabling managers and clinicians to plan and manage their workloads more effecitively and deliver an improved level of service, as well as ensuring the compliance with national reporting requirements.” Connecting For Health Feedback Have YOUR say. Will the termination of Fujitsu's contract delay IT implementation in the UK? |
