EIS health scan biosensor offers new screening approach

A new EIS health scan biosensor is aiming to be a valuable and cost-effective solution to the increasing emphasis on health screening for the detection of disease at an early stage.

Now available in the UK the EIS health scan biosensor is an easy to use, non-intrusive scanning device that gives a detailed overview of the functioning of the major organs of the body. This allows practitioners to pinpoint areas of dysfunction assisting in making clinical judgements for treatment or further investigation.

The Electro Interstitial Scanner works by using a PC to control, coordinate and direct a specific pre-programmed sequence of brief, barely perceptible DC current pulses through an array of symmetrically placed surface electrodes connected to the feet, hands and forehead. The DC current passes through the interstitial space in the body and voltage is measured at the electrodes. The change in voltage/ impedance between the anodes and cathodes reflects aspects of the physical and chemical properties of the interstitial fluid space.

The EIS system displays a wide range of physical values that will provide the practitioner with immediate information about the patient’s health. These values include estimations of:

• Biochemical values;
• Mineral values;
• Hormonal levels;
• Blood gases and pH levels;
• Neurotransmitter levels;
• Oxidative stress levels;
• Body composition.

To obtain these values by current techniques can be a lengthy and costly process. In only three minutes the EIS system scans the body for 69 parameters, giving an 87% repeatability accuracy.

The EIS system was developed by a team of doctors and statisticians with extensive validation carried out at hospitals in Europe and Asia. Ongoing validation of other parameters is being carried out in the US where the technology has FDA certification. The EIS system is now used by nearly 2000 practitioners in Europe and North America where it is proving to be an indispensable clinical aid.
