French University Hospital chooses Carestream cloudWednesday 2nd November 2011 The new contract forms part of the hospital's modernisation strategy and will operate under a "Pay-as-a-Service" (PaaS) model. To oversee the project, a control group has been established consisting of public health and medical-social institutions in the West Rhône-Alpes Health District, GIEs, cooperative health groups and non-profit organisations under 1901 legislation. The group aims to share the purchase of services and equipment enabling medical image archiving, communication and diagnostic services to meet the needs of group members and aid cooperation between these institutions and their partners. The group chose Cloud Based Services for the project instead of capital investment as these services not only enhance productivity and patient care, the fee-per-study structure provides a predictable TCO. "The first stage of our competitive dialogue aimed at identifying the technical and economic models that we could use in our project," said Jean-Christophe Bernadac, Information System Manager at the University Hospital of Saint-Etienne. "We had to take into account the requirement for the solution to be shared, regulations on storing personal medical data and the wide ranging needs and equipment levels of our members. "We imposed a service level 'standardisation' so that they could all be included in the pooled solution. "It became clear that for our project the 'service mode' approach offered the best guarantee of success, by virtue of its great adaptability to the needs of the different participants and its capacity for sharing allowing an economy of scale. "Outsourcing the platform to Carestream's approved data centre allows us to fully conform with regulations."
