Health Informatics Congress scheduled for May 2012

Wednesday 19th October 2011

Informatics
BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT have announced the dates of next year's Health Informatics Congress (HC2012), which will be held at the Business Design Centre in London, England.

The conference, which will run from May 2-3, will feature a range of high profile speakers from across the globe, who will discuss the latest developments in health informatics.

A major exhibition will run alongside the conference, which will benefit from the expertise of The Guardian's previous Smart Healthcare Live exhibitions.

Matthew Swindells, Chair of BCS Health, said: "Health informatics plays a vital role in our healthcare system and HC2012 is the perfect platform for the profession to demonstrate this and showcase best practice and innovation, investment and value."

The event has already gained support from several key organisations, including the National Centre for Clinical Excellence (NICE), the Information Centre for Health and Social Care, and UK Trade & Investment (UKTI).

Sir Andrew Dillon, Chief Executive of NICE, said: "The effective implementation and adoption of NICE guidelines and quality standards is clearly dependent on information use, and well managed information flows within and across the health and social care sectors.

"We welcome this opportunity to address these critical issues on a national stage, and are pleased to work with the Institute doing so at the event in May 2012."

Tim Straughan, Chief Executive of The NHS Information Centre, added: "Delivering safe, effective and high quality healthcare is becoming more and more dependent on the right use of information and information systems across health and social care organisations.

"The Health Informatics Congress provides an exceedingly valuable opportunity to bring informatics professionals and suppliers together to demonstrate best practice and share learning in a positive and progressive fashion. We are pleased to be a part of the planning for the event."
