Bosch Healthcare advances telehealth systems

Tuesday 3rd May 2011

Bosch
Robert Bosch Healthcare, Inc., a leader in telehealth systems and a division of the Bosch Group, today announced new advances in telehealth systems designed to create efficiencies for healthcare professionals and improve patient care. Building on the Bosch Group's 125-year history of technological innovation, the new advances were developed to address the current and future needs of hospitals, health systems and managed care facilities that use telehealth in disease management programs. The evolution of Bosch's telehealth systems provide flexibility to adapt to an organization's needs and include multiple Bosch solutions on one platform. The new solutions were announced during the 2011 American Telemedicine Association (ATA) Annual Meeting.

"Robert Bosch Healthcare is dedicated to advancing telehealth technology. We have evolved the company's technology platform to address the current and future needs of healthcare providers and the patients they care for," said Jasper zu Putlitz, M.D., President of Robert Bosch Healthcare.

Bosch telehealth systems have been improving the lives of patients with chronic conditions and helping to control escalating healthcare costs for more than a decade. 150,000 patients have used Bosch's telehealth systems, and there are more than 40,000 patients actively using the products today.

Advancing peripheral devices
The importance of accurate readings is essential when gathering critical information commonly used by healthcare professionals to assess a patient's condition. Bosch Healthcare is focused on developing cutting-edge peripherals that combine reliability, ease of use, and improved accuracy. The new Bosch weight scale, which is compatible with the Health Buddy System, incorporates these critical features and is the company's first advanced peripheral device.

Other recent developments
Bosch Healthcare, the leading provider of home monitoring telehealth to the Department of Veterans Affairs, recently announced that it was awarded a contract for use of the company's Health Buddy and ViTelCare systems. Bosch Healthcare has been providing home telehealth services to the VA since 2000. The contract was awarded by the VA following a competitive bid and procurement process completed earlier this year.

"Our team of clinicians and engineers is committed to advancing telehealth to positively impact both patient care and cost," Dr. zu Putlitz said. "The renewal of our contracts with the Department of Veterans Affairs is further confirmation of the benefits telehealth can have when managing chronic conditions."

About the Bosch Healthcare Health Buddy System
In use for more than ten years, the Health Buddy system allows patients to take a more active role in monitoring their health and symptoms while at home. Each day its integrated clinical content gives patients a series of personalized questions and useful tips to help take better care of their health. Data generated by the Health Buddy System is sent via a telephone line, wireless modem or Ethernet connection to a secure data center and quickly analyzed, giving care providers the opportunity to intervene before a patient's condition becomes critical.

About the Bosch Healthcare ViTel Care T400 Home Health Monitor
In use for more than seven years, ViTelCare T400 Home Health Monitor supports the safety and well-being of patients with congestive heart failure, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD), and others, as well as many combinations of these conditions. The T400 monitor securely transmits patient data, automatically or manually, multiple times a day and offers patients an easy to use touch screen interface and audio enabled health assessment question and answer choices. By providing a daily assessment of the patient's vital signs and symptoms, the ViTelCare system alerts healthcare professionals to changing conditions, so they can intervene before a home visit or hospitalization is required.
